Domestic violence hurts all members of the family.
Statistics show that women sustain the majority of physical injuries. Yet, men are also
victims. And we may never know the extent of emotional damage that is done to children who
witness violent behavior between parents.
Domestic violence is defined by Nebraska Law as abuse that occurs between spouses,
persons living as spouses, or adult members of the same household. It is attempting to
cause or intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury with or without a
deadly weapon or placing another in fear of imminent serious bodily injury. |

What can you do if you are a victim?
Know that you are not alone. Countless others have struggled with many of the same
questions you may now be asking yourself:
- Why does it happen to me?
- Is it my fault?
- Should I stay?
- What options do I have?
- Where can I go?
- What will my friends and family think?
These questions are not easy, but a concerned and supportive person can help you
explore the answers.
If you have been abused and would like to talk to someone - or if you know someone who
has been abused - services such as transportation, medical services, emergency legal
counseling, crisis counseling shelter, and emergency financial aid are available. |
