This booklet provides information on advance directives, powers of attorney, and other ways of allowing someone to make decisions on behalf of another person.
Legal assistance typically addresses the following issues:

Legal assistance providers regularly visit senior centers around the state to share information. As needed, providers will visit with people in their home or in a nursing home, assisted living facility, or hospital.

Common areas of assistance include wills, health care powers of attorney, durable powers of attorney, and other substitute decision-making forms. Each person’s situation is unique and important to these providers.

Legal assistance providers work closely with Adult Protective Services, the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, and with providers in other area agencies to protect vulnerable older Nebraskans and to keep up-to-date about emerging issues affecting older Nebraskans.

Legal assistance providers also work closely with the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) operated by the Nebraska Department of Insurance. SHIIP assists people with health insurance issues.
