Legal Services for Older Adults
Legal assistance is a service provided through Nebraska's eight  Area
Agencies on Aging. It is authorized by the federal Older Americans Act and
helps older Nebraskans increase their financial and legal security. |

Legal assistance typically addresses the following issues:
Legal assistance providers regularly visit senior centers around the state to share information. As needed, providers will visit with people in their home or in a nursing home, assisted living facility, or hospital. Common areas of assistance include wills, health care powers of attorney, durable powers of attorney, and other substitute decision-making forms. Each person’s situation is unique and important to these providers. Legal assistance providers work closely with Adult Protective Services, the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, and with providers in other area agencies to protect vulnerable older Nebraskans and to keep up-to-date about emerging issues affecting older Nebraskans. Legal assistance providers also work closely with the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) operated by the Nebraska Department of Insurance.
